What I have learned thus far about myself. I learned that I have RTS, it means Rape Trauma Syndrome. Many survivors have experienced rape trauma and never really thought it was anything except they were going crazy. My early years after having my daughter I experienced this and didn't know there was a name for it. Though I never reported my rape I just wanted to pretend it never happened kind of crazy of me to think so since I was pregnant.
Now they have so many programs since 1982, even though abortions were around it just wasn't my choice at the time. Though I do not feel the same way as I did when I was fifteen years old, I think the choice to have a child is at the discretion of the survivor.
Last year I started a get together for women who were effected by rape and only had one person come out. This year I am going to do it again asking for more support from the community.
I realized swimming for me is a therapeutic way for me to fight the demons that torment me from that situation. I hope that I can inspire other women to live, exercise and feel free as I continue to heal myself. I am so inspired by releasing what has kept me silent for so many years about this event in my life. Though it was a heinous crime against me I love my daughter than life itself. I am so thankful that I was able to have the support of my grandmother, Addie V. Keaton who guided me on how to be a young mother. My mother, Juanita has continued in guiding me to be the mother I am today. Like many people in this world we all have a message and a story to tell I hope that mine reaches people globally.
Like to start some "Tenacidad" Workshops in September 2018, regular one hour session for women to learn about loving their bodies after violence. I intend to run them on a Sunday mornings, a safe space for those who attend to talk about any issues they may be experiencing due to being a survivor. The hour-long session will also cover problems with family or body issues. Run especially for women who have experienced sexual violence looking at practical ways to connect with the body and physical relaxation techniques. Everybody is welcome and there will be snacks, teas and a supportive atmosphere. You can choose to listen and contribute as much or as little as you wish.
I intend to run every month and are women only, trans-friendly sessions. The Events page will have details of the next group and allows you to book a spot.
To help us with the costs of running the workshops, we ask that you give a small donation for each session you attend. If you’re employed, we’d very much appreciate a donation of a $3 to $5. If you’re unemployed, on benefits, a single parent, a student, on sick pay or money is particularly tight that month, we’re happy to waive the donation. Just send us an email at nicholle.lavann@icloud.com Letting us know which workshop(s) you’d like to attend and that you can’t give a donation at the moment. You’re still welcome to attend more than one workshop.

Sin tenacidad, no podría completar mi viaje en la vida.
